         Op de Campus Drie Eiken van de Universiteit Antwerpen hebben twee onderzoeksgroepen, Sphere en Ecobe, een grote mesocosm faciliteit gebouwd. Een mesocosm is een gecontroleerd semi-natuurlijk systeem waarin milieu- en biologische processen bestudeerd kunnen worden op een ecologisch relevante schaal van tijd, ruimte en complexiteit. De installatie bestaat uit een 1000 m2 grote serre met daarin 16 grote vijvers en vier 5 m lange rivieren (raceways) met variabele stroomsnelheid en die uitgerust kunnen worden met respirometers en een aquacultuur installatie. De raceways zijn volledig temperatuur gecontroleerd en uitgerust voor gasuitwisselingstudies (b.v. CO2). Hieraan wordt nu een 25m lange rivier (flume) toegevoegd die zal toelaten om getijden, plantengroei en elementuitwisseling in schorren te simuleren en bestuderen.

         De opdracht behelst het leveren en installeren van een grote flume in de mesocosm-faciliteit op Campus Drie Eiken van de Universiteit Antwerpen.
